2016 Independent Project

Description of my project :
I did my project on Conflict Minerals. Conflict Minerals are minerals that people in countries like Congo and neighboring countries are forced to dig up. I presented my project by using a Google Slide. My slide is above ^^^. The slide doesn't have anything on it except for topics on it because I made it in a half hour on my phone before I went to sleep. I already told you what conflict minerals are, where they come from, and how people get them. How you get hired is you get forced to. The work conditions are awful and you could end up dying or getting killed. Conflict minerals can be found in basically anything with gold, tungsten, tin, and tantalum in it, which can include watches, trophies, car parts, jewelry... What's being done is that when a company buys gold, tin, tantalum, or tungsten, they have to prove that where they bought them from doesn't have conflict minerals being mined there. If a company DID buy conflict minerals then they have to prove that they didn't know what they were buying.

What I liked about my project :
What I liked most about my project was the fact that not many people, including myself, know about conflict minerals and I liked showing everyone what I learned.

The hardest part of my project :
The hardest part of my project was probably getting up and presenting, I hate public speaking and my presentation got cut off by the bell, but once I started it got easier.

How I improved as a learner :
How I think  I improved as a learner is that I am a procrastinator and I think having deadlines helps me with that.

If I could do the whole thing over :
If I could do the whole thing over, I would probably change my slideshow and add pictures.

My suggestion :
My suggestion is to show an example of what the presentation is supposed to look like.

Shakespeare Reflection

My feeling when we first learned that we were having a Shakespeare unit were something along the lines of  "Wait, this guy is super old and I don't know anything about him. I've never read any of his plays. Why do we have to do a unit on him?!" But after doing the unit I'd have to say that I really enjoyed this unit and I'm glad we did it. The events that changed my mind were watching the Taming of the Shrew movie, because when we only read the play I couldn't picture everything in my head, all I could picture was people just standing around and talking to each other. I knew the story wasn't like that, but I couldn't help imagining that.

It's important to learn Shakespeare 400 years after his death because he is still influential in culture today. Some movies, like Ten Things I Hate About You, have Shakespeare themes. If you don't know about Shakespeare, you just think that those movies are just off the tops of movie writer's heads, and you give them credit for coming up with the whole story plot on their own.

2016-2017 first blog post

The first goal I have is to get mostly A's in my classes. The second goal I have this year is to get involved in at least two clubs. The third goal I have is to improve getting my homework done on time. I think these goals are important for me to work on because I haven't always gotten A's in the past, I want to get involved in clubs because I want to do things other than sitting in my room at home, and I want to work on getting my homework done on time because I'm not always good at getting it done when I'm supposed to.

Comics, Cartoons, and Graphic Novels

How I think used what I learned from our graphic novel unit is that I used a lot of onomatopoeia in my comic book. I did close ups and different size frames. In one of the frames I put lines showing that Spud smelled bad, along with flies.

2014-2015 School Year, Goals For The New Year

This year I'm looking forward to having all my teachers like me, getting better grades, and seeing my friends. I'm very good at getting to all of my classes on time, turning in my homework, and all of the teachers here know me, and I think that these things will help me. My challenge that I think will hold me back this year is that I'm not very organized. My goals for this year are to turn in most of my homework in on time, and not be late to classes.

Independent Project 2014

My project is about endangered species and how people try to save them. It is also about all the types of species that are endangered, the government helping out, birds, fish, butterflies, and reptiles.
My favorite part about my project was getting to look up all my facts, and that my project was about something that I am interested in.
What I could have done differently is put in pictures with my project, like when I was talking about black rhinos I could have put in a picture of one.
